Hi guys , how are you every one? Today my topic for discussion is  "further study options after DPT". 

Study options in physical therapy after DPT

After DPT, you have a number of study options and which option is best? It will be decided by you after reading this discussion. Before going in details I would like to discuss basic concepts of MS, MPhil and M.Sc. 

Currently in Pakistan MPhil and MS these two options are very popular. MS is a clinical degree and if you are interested in clinical practice and want to improve your clinical skills then I would suggest, you should go for MS or M.Sc degree. If your's area of interest is pediatric physical therapy then you should go for MS in pediatric physical therapy. If you have good skills in manual therapy, then MS in manual therapy is best. Similarly it depends upon your interest. Many students asked about, which specialty is best, so answer is , it depends on two factor.

1- what is your interest?

2- what is the demands of the time?

So I can see the limited Physical Therapists are working in pediatric, neuro, sports and women's health. New graduates should seek admission in these fields. Musculoskeletal conditions are more common with great variety and diversity , this is reason every one is looking for admission in musculoskeletal, manual therapy or orthopedic Manuel therapy. 

Here I must discuss another very important point. If your passion is  clinical practice in physical therapy and you already have enough skills (definitely it will improve with time), then do not pursue in further studies, just start your practice and you will lean from your experience.

If you have good communication skills and want to pursue in an academic job, then you should go for MPhil study. MPhil is a research degree and you will select a particular subject like kinesiology, bio mechanics, or any other subject .
